Russia’s alleged influencing of the election and its aftereffects have shaken the US to its core. If it is proven to be true, the free election has been tampered with. Trump continuously dismissing these claims, labelling them ‘fake news’ is worrying and delegitimises his security agencies in the eyes of Americans. The NYT editorial board proclaims that is essential to shield this investigation from Trump’s interference so that it may go through transparently. Portraying the US as a victim and Russia as an aggressor is somewhat dismissive of history.
