THERE ARE AT LEAST TWO SIDES TO EVERY STORY

Democrats are wrong to start blaming Republicans for every mass shooting, writes Glenn Greenwald on Substack. This man was a demented killer, and it is deeply partisan to try and blame members of the GOP for his actions. It is important to note that many left-wing killers, such as the man who shot Stephen Scalise at a softball game in 2017, was an ardent follower of Democrats and liberal news channels. However, his heinous crime is never blamed on Democrats. Every ideology has extremists. Blaming public figures for deranged people going too far would create a very dangerous precedent. This finger-pointing should be avoided.

Men like the Buffalo mass shooter are partially indoctrinated by Republican talking points, asserts Cas Mudde of The Guardian. In his manifesto, the shooter ranted about the Great Replacement Theory, which holds that liberals and Jews are bringing in immigrants to replace white Americans since they are easier to control. Republicans have long spread this ridiculous conspiracy to rile up their base. The fear and hate that is stoked through it lead to tragedies like that in Buffalo. Republicans fuel racist right-wing extremism like this. They need to change their rhetoric and fearmongering in order to prevent more attacks like this from happening.
